What to Know About ETIAS Requirements
Starting in 2024, the European Commission will roll out an electronic travel authorization system (similar to what is currently used in the U.S.) to digitally screen and track visitors from non-European Union (E.U.) member countries who are traveling to and from the E.U.
ETIAS stands for the European Travel Information and Authorization System. ETIAS will charge a fee for the system to check the security credentials of travelers visiting E.U. member countries for business, tourism, medical, or transit purposes. ETIAS is not a visa, and is more accurately referred to as a "visa-waiver."
Travelers will need to apply online to ETIAS before arrival to the E.U. Each eligible traveler, regardless of age, will require an ETIAS visa-waiver to visit E.U. member countries. The cost of an ETIAS visa-waiver is €7 for individuals ages 18 to 70 years. Travelers below 18 years or above 70 years of age can apply for free.
