HOW WE DETERMINE ACTIVITY LEVELS

LEVEL 1: EASY
Tour days tend to be shorter in length, flow at a leisurely pace and include opportunities for time at leisure. Expect standing and little to no walking for short periods of time on flat surfaces, mostly low altitudes, and consistent temperatures. Depending on the itinerary details, guests will need to be prepared to board a plane, bus, boat, ferry or ship. There will be some walking to rooms, cabins or restaurants and general points of interest. Walking may also include occasional stairs or some steps during transfers and stops where elevators are not always available.

LEVEL 2: RELAXED
Tour days typically flow at a relaxed pace. Some activities last longer than others. Expect standing and walking for moderate periods of time on occasionally uneven terrain, including cobblestones or unpaved pathways. Guests should be able to walk up or down slight slopes as elevators are not always available at stops and accommodations. There also may be variations in altitude and/or temperature. Guests should be able to board transportation and climb a few flights of stairs, occasionally without handrails or assistance.

LEVEL 3: MODERATE
Tour days tend to be long, flow at a consistent pace and may include long periods of travel. Guests should be prepared to walk longer distances, climb stairs and tolerate periods of standing, for example on city walks, sightseeing stops or ship excursions, on sometimes uneven surfaces including cobblestones or unpaved pathways and trails. Some destinations may have variations in altitude and/or temperature. Daily pace and timing may vary significantly between longer and shorter travel days, with additional activities possibly occurring in the early morning or evening. Guests are expected to board transportation without assistance. Elevators are not always available at accommodations or sites visited.

LEVEL 4: ACTIVE
Tour days tend to be long and include many full-day excursions via various modes of transportation, flow at a brisk pace and may include extended travel days with morning and/or evening activities. Excursions may require standing and walking to city centers where coaches are prohibited, along with extended periods of walking and standing on uneven surfaces including cobblestones and paths and/or trails that may be gravel, sand, dirt or other unpaved surface. Scheduled activities may require physical effort or have distinct variations in altitude and/or temperature. Guests are expected to board transportation without assistance. Elevators are not always available at accommodations or sites visited.

LEVEL 5: VERY ACTIVE
Tour days tend to be long, flow at a very active pace and may include lengthy periods of travel. Expect extended periods of walking and standing on uneven surfaces including cobblestone and paths and/or trails that may be gravel, sand, dirt or other unpaved surface. Activities may be in remote or rugged areas that require physical effort, possibly at high altitudes with steep ascents/descents and have distinct variations in altitude and/or temperature. Leisure time may be limited due to robust itineraries. Physical activities may include hiking, kayaking, rafting or bicycling. Guests are expected to board transportation without assistance. Elevators are not always available at accommodations or sites visited.
