El Racó de Madremanya: the gem of Catalonia

Situated in the Costa Brava region of Spain, just south of the French border, lies a cozy oasis of beauty and tranquility known as El Racó de Madremanya.

This delightful boutique hotel—consisting of just 10 rooms—features medieval stone architecture, individually themed rooms, and the charming hospitality of its ever present owner Ivan, who departed corporate life to live out his lifelong dream of running a small hotel. What he has created, and the dedication he pours into it every day is astonishing.

This hidden gem of Catalonia has much to offer—from its splendid, lush grounds and sparkling pool area, complete with two pools, to the quaint garden dotted with inviting lounge chairs and umbrella tables, all perfect venues for relaxing.

Spacious and well-appointed guest rooms are located in either the restored 17th-century farmhouse—with rough-hewn walls filled with nooks and crannies, fireplaces, quiet terraces, and gorgeous views of the hotel and surrounding countryside—or the contemporary-style building next to the pools and garden, which also houses the elegant dining room, where meals featuring regional Mediterranean cuisine are served each day.

All guest rooms provide individually controlled heating and air conditioning, satellite television, telephone, mini-bar, plush slippers and bathrobe, and modern en suite bathrooms with hairdryer. It's the perfect combination of old and new, with every convenience, assuring you have a memorable, and restful stay.

A tranquil sitting room and library filled with books offer space to unwind and enjoy your surroundings. Guests may also utilize the complimentary Wi-Fi to stay connected, if they so choose.

Enjoy dinner under the stars on the terrace and get to know your host while enjoying regional specialties or any number of delicious dishes created with fresh local ingredients from both land and sea.

The property is also close to a variety of charming villages including the town of Girona, only 20 minutes away, historical sites like the Greco-Roman ruins at Empúries, picturesque beaches along the coastline, and a myriad of well-known and respected wineries.

The artist, Salvador Dalí, spent much of his time in this inspiring area of Costa Brava, and there is much of his legacy to see, including Púbol Castle and the Dalí Theatre-Museum, where visitors can learn about his life, loves, and truly unusual works of art.
