60 Seconds with Bobbi: Flavors of Northern Italy

Orbridge travel programs are carefully developed and executed by our skilled and passionate team who visits the locations and properties, and experiences each aspect of the programs. Their detailed reports offer valuable observations and highlights that may be useful for prospective travelers. The following is a 60-second interview we'd like to share.

What was your initial impression after arriving in Northern Italy?
The Lake Garda region is so beautiful, with vineyards stretching across the landscape, charming farmhouses and small winding roads. So different from the larger Italian cities I have seen in the past—I got the sense that this was the "real" Italy.

What was your favorite highlight of the program?
The nightly group dinners—with fabulous food, wine and the delightful people we met and got to spend time with. We learned so much from each of our hosts about their lives, their interests and how modern Italy is changing. And the desserts...

What do you think other travelers will enjoy the most?
The cuisine demonstrations—making tortellini and tiramisu; the vineyard visits—seeing the wineries in action; and stops at cheese “factories” and balsamic vinegar distilleries. It is fascinating to see the origins of the foods and wines we buy, and the people who create them.

Which local person made the biggest impact on you?
Luca Formentini, the owner of Selva Capuzza. He and his family have dedicated so much time and love into building and nurturing their winery and hotel, it is clear to see. His love of country, of preserving the area and the way of live they have, is heartfelt and infectious.

What surprised you the most about this program?
That I could actually fit into my jeans when it was time to go home. After all that food and wine, I was not sure...

Actually the amount of history that happened in the area, I had no idea so much history had happened in and around Verona.

Why should travelers get excited about this destination?
Verona and the Lake Garda area are a hidden treasure of Italy and a chance to see Italy away from the big crowds. And you will never look at an Italian menu the same way again!
