Happy 100th Birthday National Park Service

National ParksThis year marks the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, a federal agency charged with the stewardship and protection of some of our most valuable resources—our national monuments, conservation areas and national parks.

On August 25, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the act that created the National Park Service, to protect the 35 parks and monuments already in existence, and to create and protect many more in the years to come. Currently more than 400 areas covering 84 million acres across the U.S and her protectorates are included, with more being added every year.

From on-site management, to long term policies and projects, the Park Service has helped millions of Americans discover the history, beauty and unforgettable experiences that abound in these protected areas. Come see for yourself the diverse and amazing beauty of America—no station wagon required.
