Wellness Protocol

We look forward to welcoming you on tour soon! We understand that traveling during these times requires additional preparation and planning in order to foster a healthy and safe on-tour experience for you and others on your tour. In addition to the standard Wellness Protocols that meet or exceed CDC recommendations and international travel industry guidelines in place for all Orbridge tours, the following are what you can expect on this tour.

This page is updated as new information becomes available from local, state, and international agencies. The environment for travel is constantly evolving, and as such, it is advised that you check this page regularly to be aware of the most current information for your tour.

Tour Participation Requirement: Vaccination

We are requiring all guests to be fully vaccinated from COVID-19 at least 14-days prior to arrival on tour. By being vaccinated, individuals can help promote the overall health and wellness of all guests, staff, and the local residents with whom we interact on this group tour. Please ensure you have a paper copy of your COVID-19 vaccination card, including any boosters, which will be verified by your on-tour travel leader. All travelers, including your Orbridge Travel Leaders, will be required to follow this protocol.

Testing and Entry Requirements:

To enter Italy, travelers are no longer required to present proof of having completed a COVID-19 primary vaccination series or booster dose or a negative swab test. 

Return to the United States

The CDC only requires foreign national air passengers traveling from a foreign country to the United States to show a valid vaccination card to their airline prior to departure to the United States. The proof of vaccination can be a paper or digital record issued by an official source and include the traveler’s name, date of birth, and the vaccine product and date(s) of administration for all doses the traveler received.

It is important you review your state’s COVID-19 testing requirements to determine any state-specific protocol upon your return.

Destination Specific Wellness Protocols:

Beginning October 1, 2022, masks are only required to be worn in health care facilities. The use of masks is still highly recommended indoors. 

In Italy, if you come into close contact with someone who tests positive, you will need to self-monitor and wear the FFP2 mask for 10 days from the last contact. If you develop symptoms, you should take a test when the symptoms occur and, if symptoms remain, test again on the fifth day after being in contact with the positive person. Local health authorities have now indicated you can test in a private facility. If you do so, you must send a digital copy of your negative test certificate to the local ASL office.

Guests presenting symptoms must inform their Orbridge Travel Director and test. If the test result is positive, guests will need to self-isolate for a minimum of 7 days if fully vaccinated and boosted, or if recovered from COVID in the last 120 days. If not, the isolation period is extended to 10 days. Upon testing positive, Italy requires notifying the local health authority by calling the regional Covid hotline. In both cases, positive individuals must not exhibit symptoms (apart from loss of taste or smell) for three days before being able to leave self-isolation. They must also test negative for COVID with a molecular (PCR) or rapid antigen test on the final day of isolation to be released. If continuing to test positive, quarantine can cease after 21 days. The government does not provide accommodations or meals during the 21-day period. Guests should follow the advice of the local health authorities at all times as regional variations may apply. Local health authorities have now indicated you can test in a private facility. If you do so, you must send a digital copy of your negative test certificate to the local ASL office (Local Government Health Agency or Azienda Sanitaria Locale, under the National Healthcare Service "SSN" or Servizio Sanitario Nazionale).

It is highly recommended guests purchase travel insurance that covers Covid-19 related occurrences, understand the details of Covid-specific coverage, and be prepared to make arrangements to extend your stay for longer than planned. 

If needing to visit a hospital while on tour, a valid vaccination card and any booster/s or proof of having recovered from Covid-19 in the past six months must be shown to enter. If you do not have a QR code with your vaccination card validity that can be scanned using Italy's Health Ministry's VerificaC19 app, you can show a paper copy of your white CDC certificate with boosters or authorized recovery certificate.

At the time of your tour, your Orbridge Travel Director will advise you of any local restrictions so that you can best plan your time allotted for independent exploration.

What other requirements are in place to enter Italy? 

Just like here in the U.S., it is important to remember that restrictions are continually changing, so it is important to frequently visit Orbridge.com/wellness for the latest information. It is the responsibility of guests to be aware of the entry requirements in place at the time of their tour.

At the time of this update, guests entering Italy are not required to show a Covid-19 vaccination card or proof of a negative Covid-19 test.

Air Travel:

  • Under current policy, air passengers traveling to the United States no longer need to get tested and show the COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 prior to boarding a flight to the U.S.

  • The CDC requires only foreign national air passengers traveling from a foreign country to the U.S. to show a valid vaccination card to their airline prior to departure to the U.S. The proof of vaccination can be a paper or digital record issued by an official source and include the traveler’s name, date of birth, and the vaccine product and date(s) of administration for all doses the traveler received. 

  • In the event that you test positive for COVID-19 at any point while on tour or before returning home, guests are responsible for any costs associated with quarantine. Italy requires a mandatory quarantine of 7-21 days after testing positive per the Italian Health Ministry. If you are symptom free, you are to test again on Day 7. You are required to stay in isolation until a negative test.

  • Specific protocols and expectations for air travel vary by airline. Click here and scroll to the Air Travel Protocol section to learn more about airline protocols. 
  • Travelers must individually check in online for flights (usually beginning 24 hours prior to scheduled departure time) and follow instructions by the airlines to register the passenger information for COVID protocols and requirements of your airline. Make sure you understand and follow all airline and destination requirements related to travel, testing, masking, or quarantine, which may differ from U.S. requirements. Be sure and check with your airline including transit countries before departure as rules can change. If you do not follow your destination’s requirements, you may be denied entry and may be required to return to the United States. 
  • IMPORTANT: We ask that guests double check their passport for being valid for six months after their program return date. As applicable, apply immediately for a new or renewed passport as there are EXTREME processing delays due to COVID-19.
