Civil War Battlefields

Join us on an immersive journey as we visit iconic sites of the American Civil War, each providing opportunity to remember and reflect upon our nation's history.

Learn how Harpers Ferry inflamed sectional tensions. Discover why Antietam changed the course of the conflict and allowed Abraham Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation. And walk through Gettysburg Battlefield, gaining insight into why it's considered the most important engagement of the American Civil War.

Day 1: Arrive in Baltimore, MD | Gettysburg, PA

Sunday, May 4, 2025 (R,D)

Upon arrival to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) an Orbridge representative will be waiting to assist with your transfer to the hotel.

Take time to settle in and refresh before joining fellow travel companions and Orbridge Travel Director for a lecture by a local historian followed by a special welcome reception featuring a robust introduction to the enlightening itinerary ahead.

Then be seated for a relaxing dinner followed by the remainder of the evening at leisure.

Day 2: Gettysburg | Cyclorama

Monday, May 5, 2025 (B,D)

After breakfast join a guided tour to explore Gettysburg, setting the stage for understanding the context and impact of events that unfolded in this historic town. Gettysburg itself is a living testament to the sacrifices made during the Civil War.

Continue to Gettysburg National Military Park Visitors Center—the gateway to Gettysburg Battlefield. This complex offers a comprehensive understanding of the Civil War's most pivotal battle. Through interactive exhibits, artifacts and educational resources, gain invaluable context for exploring the battlefield.

Next view the restored Cyclorama—one of only three remaining. This artistic marvel, painted by renowned artist Paul Philippoteaux, provides a panoramic view of the Battle of Gettysburg, one of the Civil War's defining moments.

Break for lunch and free time on your own.

This afternoon rejoin the group for a lecture discussing the battles of Harpers Ferry and Antietam, then visit Gettysburg Railroad Station where Lincoln arrived on November 18, 1863, to deliver one of the most iconic speeches in American history—the Gettysburg Address. Journey back in time via virtual reality technology for an immersive glimpse into this historic moment.

Day 3: Gettysburg | Harpers Ferry, WV | Antietam National Battlefield, MD | Gettysburg, PA

Tuesday, May 6, 2025 (B,L)

Enjoy breakfast before boarding a motor coach for Harpers Ferry, a historic town that played a pivotal role in the Civil War, serving as a strategic military outpost and a symbol of abolitionist resistance. During a visit to Harpers Ferry National Historic Park, learn of the town's storied past and its enduring legacy in the fight for freedom.

Stop for lunch before continuing to Antietam.

As the site of the bloodiest single-day battle in American history, Antietam National Battlefield holds immense significance. Walking in the footsteps of soldiers who fought and died on these hallowed grounds, gain a profound appreciation for the sacrifices made during the Civil War.

Day 4: Gettysburg Battlefield | Shriver House

Wednesday, May 7, 2025 (B,L,R,D)

This morning join local expert guides for a comprehensive tour of Gettysburg Battlefield. Hear of the strategies, tactics and human experiences that unfolded during the pivotal three-day conflict. From Little Round Top to Pickett's Charge, each landmark offers insights into the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought here.

Next visit the Shriver House. This meticulously preserved home provides a glimpse into civilian life during the Civil War, offering a poignant contrast to the battlefield experiences of soldiers. During a guided tour learn about the Shriver family and gain a greater appreciation for the human cost of war.

This evening gather with fellow travel companions for a special farewell reception, providing time to reflect on this transformative experience and the indomitable spirit of America's past.

Day 5: Gettysburg | Baltimore, MD | Depart Baltimore

After breakfast guests departing during the suggested times take the complimentary transfer to the airport for flights home.

Relaxed

Tour days typically flow at a relaxed pace. Some activities last longer than others. Expect standing and walking for moderate periods of time on occasionally uneven terrain, including cobblestones or unpaved pathways. Guests should be able to walk up or down slight slopes as elevators are not always available at stops and accommodations. There also may be variations in altitude and/or temperature. Guests should be able to board transportation and climb a few flights of stairs, occasionally without handrails or assistance.

• Many of the parks and battlefields have dirt trails or grassy areas, but they are usually fairly smooth for walking. Some have paved pathways or boardwalks.
