Itinerary:

Day 10: Edinburgh / Perthshire / Pitlochry
This morning, depart for the scenic journey to Pitlochry, arriving at the Red Deer Centre—winner of the "Best Visitor Experience in Scotland." Natural wonders abound as you explore the magnificent views and untouched wilderness in 250,000 acres of Highland Perthshire Estates. Climb aboard Land Rovers with experienced (and kilted) rangers for a special safari through the Highlands. Venture into a "secret Scotland"—reaching heights of nearly 3,000 feet—to search for rare wildlife, including famous red grouse, elusive mountain hares, majestic red deer, and soaring golden eagles.

Afterward, get up close and personal with Britain's largest native land mammal—the red deer.

A special lunch is planned at a bothy, or wilderness dwelling. Don't forget to record your adventure in the bothy book.

The reminder of today is at leisure to settle in to your marvelous accommodations and explore the palace grounds. Perhaps stroll one of the lovely garden paths, sip a tea on the veranda, or take a dip in the inviting indoor pool.
Overnight: Atholl Palace Hotel (L)

Day 11: Pitlochry / Perthshire / Pitlochry
Following a leisurely morning, satisfy your sweet tooth during a tour and tasting at Iain Burnett's The Highland Chocolatier shop.

Iain is a master chocolatier and truffle specialist. His velvet truffles have received more than 40 awards and have twice been awarded the "Best Truffle in the World." He creates his gourmet chocolates for Michelin-star chefs, as well as for some of the world’s most prestigious hotels. Delve into the world of artisan-made chocolates—illustrated by precise craftsmanship and subtleties—during this unforgettable gastronomic experience.

With the scent of the Highlands in the air, explore more of the bustling town of Pitlochry on your own. It's justifiably proud of its Victorian heritage and tourism traditions, and offers visitors much to enjoy. Beautiful scenery, rich clan history, fine food, and plenty of open space have welcomed visitors for over 170 years. There are activity options for every taste.

Perhaps take in the repertory of plays at the famous Festival Theatre—a wonderful, modern theatre just across the River Tummel and accessible for pedestrians by means of an interesting suspension bridge. Stimulate your curiosity by viewing the Pictish carvings on the huge Dunfallandy stone at nearby Ballinluig. Visit Pitlochry's well-known hydroelectric dam and salmon ladder. The ladder was specially constructed to enable salmon to bypass the dam and make their way upstream. For more adrenaline-fueled choices, bungee jumping, canyoning, tubing, and whitewater rafting adventures are available. Or take it down a notch with a relaxing, warming dram of malt whiskey at one of the two local distilleries, Edradour and Blair Athol. Those wishing to browse for souvenirs will find the range and quality of shopping is superb.
