The afternoon is at leisure to explore Moab, an idyllic resort town surrounded by stunning red rock landscapes. The Moab Information Center offers thorough details and interpretive displays on the abundant visitor activities, plus a robust gift shop featuring guide books, maps, postcards, and more.

Day 3: Moab / Canyonlands National Park / Mesa Verde National Park, CO
This morning's highlight includes a visit to Canyonlands National Park—the largest national park in Utah—for guided sightseeing. Canyonlands' diverse landscape promises spectacular views of towering rock pinnacles and striking desert vistas. Over time, the Colorado River and its tributaries have carved intricate buttes and river beds into this beautifully rugged terrain.

Later, enjoy a scenic drive southeast to Mesa Verde National Park where the remainder of the day and evening are at leisure to unwind and settle in.
Overnight: Far View Lodge (B,L)

Day 4: Mesa Verde National Park
Established in 1906, Mesa Verde National Park is a well-preserved prehistoric settlement landscape of the Ancestral Puebloan culture. This UNESCO World Heritage Site spans 52,485 acres and is also included in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

After breakfast, meet with a park ranger for a guided tour to discover some of Mesa Verde National Park's 5,000 archaeological sites plus a close exploration of various cliff dwellings—built from the 6th to the 12th century, which range in size from small storage structures to large villages of 50 to 200 rooms.

For guests seeking a more ambitious activity, there will be an opportunity to register for a ranger guided tour inside of the cliff dwellings including climbing ladders similar to the ones the original inhabitants would have used.
Overnight: Far View Lodge (B)

Day 5: Mesa Verde National Park / Durango / Flight to Phoenix, AZ / Scottsdale/ Main Program Begins
Following breakfast, transfer to Durango-La Plata County Airport for the brief flight to Phoenix to join fellow travelers on the main program. (B)

Activity Level:

Moderate

The majority of the program’s activities will take place outdoors and a fair amount of walking on varying terrain is to be expected. Many of the parks have dirt trails—but they are usually fairly smooth for walking—and some do have paved pathways and boardwalks. It is our expectation that guests on this pre-tour are able to walk up and down a flight of stairs, and get in and out of a motor coach without assistance. If you are able to walk a mile at a moderate pace, you will be able to enjoy all of the activities.
