Days 3: Beijing
After breakfast, join your Orbridge guide for a tour along one of the greatest wonders of the world — the Great Wall of China. Enjoy stunning views of the grasslands and meadows through which the Great Wall winds while you walk along the great fortress with more than 2,000 years of history. Savor an authentic Chinese lunch at a local restaurant before visiting the Ming Dynasty Tombs, which date back to 1368-1644. Step inside underground “Ding Ling,” the mausoleum of Emperor Zhu Yijun and his two empresses. Late this afternoon, return to the hotel to freshen up for the evening’s highlight — a Peking Roast Duck Banquet.

Days 4: Beijing
During morning sightseeing, walk through Tian’anmen Square, the largest public square in the world, covering over 109 acres. Constructed to hold over half a million people, the square was the site for the proclamation of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Pass through the gates of the Forbidden City’s Imperial Palace, which served as the household for China’s great emperors for almost 500 years. Consisting of 980 buildings and 8,704 rooms, the Forbidden City is the largest ancient building in the world, built in the center of Beijing to represent the supreme power of the emperor given from God – his palace at the “center of the world.” Refresh with a lunch at a local restaurant and an afternoon at leisure, where you may choose to join optional excursions, attend an evening show, or explore the city’s historic sites and attractions on your own.

Experience the Beijing of the past by visiting some of the most ancient neighborhoods in the city — Hutongs. Built during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties, thousands still exist today, occupying a third of the urban district of Beijing. Meander through age-old alleyways on a traditional, three-wheel passenger cycle to the Drum Tower where panoramic views of the alleyways await. Gain an understanding of the locals as you travel through communities that house generations of history in the midst of the bustling metropolis. The rest of the day at leisure gives you an opportunity to venture out for lunch and dinner on your own, and to fully immerse yourself in Beijing’s historic sites that sit around every corner. Perhaps ponder trendy art in the 798 district or visit a Cloisonné workshop.
