Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Trek (2012 B)
Extend your Tanzania Migration Safari with an extra night in Arusha, followed by two days gorilla trekking in Volcano National Park. After overnighting at the comfortable Gorilla Mountain Lodge, set off into the Virunga Mountains in search of four habituated gorilla groups. Itinerary:
Day 11: (Day 11 of your Tanzania Safari)
After our morning game drive we fly to Arusha. On arrival we have lunch and finish our shopping for woodcarvings, art or tanzanite at the Cultural Heritage Center. Overnight at the Mount Meru Hotel. (B, L from main program, D added for extension guests)
Day 12: Kilimanjaro Airport - Kigali, Rwanda
Enjoy a delicious breakfast and morning at your leisure. After lunch, transfer to the airport for our flight to Kigali, where you will be met on arrival by your Orbridge Expedition Leader for your drive to the Gorilla Mountain View Lodge. (B,L,D)
Day 13: Volcanoes National Park & Gorilla Trekking
After an early breakfast we begin our first gorilla trek. Mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park is one of the most exciting natural history experiences in all of Africa. To be so close to these amazing animals can truly be a life changing moment. Over the next two days you will trek through the Virunga Mountains in search of one of four habituated groups, and overnight at Gorilla Mountain View Lodge. Trekking will involve walking and climbing hills in tropical forests on uneven, sometimes slippery ground, at a moderate, unhurried pace. Park regulations state that the maximum time that can be spend with the gorillas is one hour. The time spent searching for the gorillas does not count as part of the hour. (B,L,D)
Day 14: Volcanoes National Park / Gorilla Trek / Kigali
We have an early breakfast and depart for our last gorilla trek. After an hour with these great primates we return to Kinigi for lunch. Afternoon drive to Kigali for dinner and overnight at the Kigali Serena Hotel. (B,L,D)
Day 15: Kigali / Depart
Take advantage of dayrooms at the Kigali Serena Hotel, and enjoy lunch and a sightseeing excursion of Kigali and the Genocide Museum. In the late afternoon, transfer to the airport for your departing flight. (B,L)
